Construction of a fast tram line (Krakowski Szybki Tramwaj, Stage IV) connecting the area of Meissnera Street with the Mistrzejowice district, carried out in a public-private partnership formula — the first such large PPP tram project in Poland. The public partner is the City of Krakow, and the private partner is the consortium of PPP Solutions Polska and Gülermak, which under a 24-year contract financed, designed, and built the route and is responsible for its maintenance for 20 years. The route is approx. 4.45 km long, including a 1.23 km tunnel, with an underground interchange hub at the Polsad roundabout. The value of the entire undertaking was set at PLN 1.92 billion.

Significance

The new line reduces travel time from Mistrzejowice to the centre of Krakow by about 12 minutes and completes the fast tram network in the north-eastern part of the city, serving densely populated housing estates. The undertaking is regarded as a model for financing transport investments in the PPP formula in Poland — the city pays the private partner an availability fee instead of handing over ticket revenues. The launch date was pushed back from the end of 2025 to 2026, partly due to delays in connecting the tunnel's power supply by Tauron.
