Significance

The new unit increases the dispatchable, flexible generation capacity of the national system (operating in the range from just under 40% to 100% of capacity), supporting the balancing of the system amid a growing share of renewables and replacing high-emission coal capacity. The unit is covered by capacity-market support (a capacity obligation of 518 MW from 2026).
